Shanghai, July 16 /Xinhua/ — On the afternoon of July 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting at the Xijiao residence in Shanghai with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who arrived in China to participate in the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2026 and the High-Level Conference on Global Artificial Intelligence Governance.

Xi Jinping noted that against the backdrop of accelerating tectonic shifts and profound transformations worldwide, China-Kazakhstan relations have withstood the test and become increasingly robust. In Kazakhstan, comprehensive reform is vigorously promoted as a strategic plan for the country’s future.China and Kazakhstan must strengthen the alignment of their national development strategies and political courses, continuously enhance the level of practical cooperation for the sake of joint development, steadily elevate the China-Kazakhstan strategic interaction to new heights, and achieve new achievements.

Xi Jinping emphasized that the steady promotion of comprehensive cooperation between China and Kazakhstan serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples. Our countries should advance innovative trade development and optimize its structure, stimulate the growth of new industries such as cross-border e-commerce and trade in services. Cooperation in the energy and mining sectors should be intensified, key projects should be accelerated in their implementation, connectivity strengthened, the number of direct flights increased, international road transport procedures further simplified, and new quality productive forces cultivated. To this end, China is ready to share technological achievements in the digital economy and artificial intelligence to support Kazakhstan’s digital transformation. We will ensure the successful conduct of the China-Kazakhstan Year of Cultural Exchanges, activate cooperation in education, science and technology, medicine, healthcare, sports, and media, and strengthen the foundation of the centuries-old friendship between the two countries.China is ready to jointly implement four global initiatives with Kazakhstan, strengthen coordination and interaction within the framework of the UN, SCO, the “China-Central Asia” format, and other multilateral platforms, and together defend international justice.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his joy upon arriving in the dynamic and innovative metropolis of Shanghai to participate in the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence, warmly congratulated the Communist Party of China on the 105th anniversary of its founding, and all of China on its brilliant achievements under the wise leadership of Chairman Xi Jinping. Kazakhstan regards China as one of the main priorities in its foreign policy and is committed to continuously strengthening the eternal comprehensive strategic partnership with China. Kazakhstan fully shares the important ideas expressed by Chairman Xi Jinping regarding the development of bilateral relations and will actively implement them together with the Chinese side. At the end of the meeting, in the presence of the heads of the two states, documents on cooperation in the fields of trade, transport, finance, and media were signed and announced.
