Kyiv, July 16 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed the chairman of the board of the state energy company “Naftogaz of Ukraine”, Serhiy Koretsky, as the new prime minister of the country. The decision was approved by 289 deputies, exceeding the required minimum of 226 votes, parliamentary member Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported on Telegram.
Speaking in the Verkhovna Rada before his appointment, S. Koretsky stated that his priority tasks in the new position will be preparing for the upcoming heating season, supporting businesses to ensure the state’s economic stability, developing and strengthening cooperation with partners, attracting and effectively using international aid, and Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
S. Koretsky is 48 years old. Before working at “Naftogaz,” he was the director of Ukraine’s largest oil and gas extraction company “Ukrnafta,” as well as the largest Ukrainian oil refining company “Ukrtatnafta.”
The predecessor of S. Koretsky, Yulia Sviridenko, was dismissed on Tuesday.
