Shenyang, July 16 /Xinhua/ — Seven people died and one went missing as a result of an inflatable boat explosion in the waters near Mopanshan Island in Xincheng City, administratively subordinate to Huludao City in Liaoning Province /Northeastern China/, on Wednesday, local authorities reported on Thursday.
The explosion occurred at about 14:08 on Wednesday; there were 13 people on board the boat. Five wounded, including two in serious condition, were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The preliminary investigation revealed that local residents were on the boat, who went to collect shellfish during low tide. On the way back, a sudden explosion occurred when the boatman tried to start the motor after a presumed motor fuel leak.
