UN, July 15 /Xinhua/ — The Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative on Tuesday called on the international community to support the central coordinating role of the UN in international development cooperation and to promote an inclusive and balanced partnership for development.
Speaking with a joint statement on behalf of the group during the general debate of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Sun Lei, the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of China to the UN, stated that the international community is facing increasing challenges, including a shortage of development resources and a widening development gap.
The group called for strengthening the global consensus, more active mobilization of resources, practical implementation of measures, and the application of a people-centered approach to promote sustainable development. It also strongly urged reforms aimed at increasing the efficiency of the UN system in development and international financial governance, including progress in revising shareholdings in the World Bank’s capital and reallocating quotas at the International Monetary Fund.
The group called for mobilizing the resources of all interested parties, expanding development financing channels, and supporting developing countries in strengthening financial infrastructure, expanding budget capacities, and enhancing financial potential.
The group of friends of the Global Development Initiative remains committed to promoting political dialogue, sharing development experiences, and strengthening practical cooperation, while welcoming the accession of more countries to joint efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030, according to a joint statement. –0–
