The number of corporate clients from the non-financial sector conducting transactions in the money market of the Moscow Exchange increased by 17% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, reaching almost 9.6 thousand participants. The vast majority of them (9.4 thousand companies) operate through brokerage firms.

The volume of transactions of Russian businesses in the money market of the Moscow Exchange for the first half of 2026 exceeded 180 trillion rubles, which is 42% higher than the figure for the same period last year.

Most of these transactions are short-term: in the second quarter of 2026, legal entities placed funds on the money market for an average of 2.3 days at 14.22%, and attracted funds for 3 days at a rate of 14.31%. In the second quarter, the Russian Central Bank’s key rate decreased from 15% to 14.25%.

Dmitry Danilenko, Director of Money Market Development at the Moscow Exchange:

“More and more representatives of Russian business are using money market exchange instruments for placement and fundraising. The first half of the year showed confident dynamics across the entire money market, and June became the most active month: the average daily volume of operations reached a historic high of 7.5 trillion rubles. At the same time, the average daily open position of non-financial corporations in the first half of 2026 was 1.5 times higher than last year’s figure, reaching 2.4 trillion rubles, which accounts for about 25% of the total money market segment with the central counterparty (CCP).”

The largest segment of the money market is repo transactions, through which corporate clients place and attract funds secured by securities for periods ranging from one day (overnight) to one year. Such transactions are available through brokers in various currencies: Russian rubles, Chinese yuan, Kazakhstani tenge, and Belarusian rubles. Besides repo, legal entities can directly operate in the money market by placing deposits in the National Clearing Center (NCC) — the central counterparty of the Moscow Exchange.

Money market The Moscow Exchange is one of the most important segments of the Russian financial market, through which financial companies, large, medium, and small businesses, as well as individual investors, manage monetary liquidity. The list of money market instruments includes repo with the Central Counterparty, repo with the Central Securities Depository, repo with the Bank of Russia, interdealer repo, deposits with the Central Counterparty, loans, as well as deposit and credit auctions.
