The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Denis Manturov, visited the Baikonur Cosmodrome, where together with the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, and the director of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Jared Isaacman, he participated in the launch of a space rocket carrying the crewed transport spacecraft Soyuz MS-29.
Before the launch, the First Deputy Prime Minister, the heads of Roscosmos and NASA met with the crew of the ship, which included Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov, Anna Kikina, and NASA astronaut Anil Menon.
Denis Manturov also held a working meeting with NASA Director Jared Isaacman, during which current and prospective areas of cooperation between Russia and the United States in the space sector were discussed. In particular, issues related to the controlled deorbiting of the International Space Station were considered – a joint program was developed, envisioning the end of the station’s flight by the end of 2030.
“We are ready to discuss prospects for cooperation in the area of national orbital stations. Here, we place special emphasis on the possibility of providing mutual assistance in the event of emergency situations. We see potential for cooperation within lunar programs, including the creation of docking mechanisms, establishing radio communication, as well as addressing satellite communication and navigation issues in future lunar missions. Another promising area of interaction is related to space medicine and biology, namely conducting joint experiments both within the existing infrastructure and on future orbital stations,” noted Denis Manturov.
The First Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the joint calculation of the ship launch on a successful start.
“Ahead of the cosmonauts are eight months of intense work as part of the 75th long-duration expedition, two spacewalks, dozens of scientific experiments, and technology tests. The start of this program has been secured here, by your efforts. And further on, the ground services in Korolev and Houston support the flight, maintain communication with the crew, and monitor the operation of all systems. This year we marked the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight. The legendary ‘Gagarin’s Start,’ located about thirty kilometers from us, remains a symbol of Baikonur and the continuity of domestic manned spaceflight. Over the past decades, equipment, tasks, and program scales have changed, but one thing remains unchanged — every launch is supported by tremendous work on Earth,” emphasized Denis Manturov.
