On July 2, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Magnificent Silk: Contemporary Chinese Silk Art” was held at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, organized jointly by the China Silk Museum, Huzhou City Museum, Turpan Museum, and the National Museum of Kazakhstan. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, Aida Balaeva, sent a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the exhibition’s opening. Han Chunlin noted that this exhibition is one of the key events within the framework of the Cross-Year of Cultural Exchange between Kazakhstan and China 2026. The ambassador emphasized that civilizations preserve diversity through communication, communication makes mutual learning possible, and mutual learning is the foundation for joint development. On the path to building a China-Kazakhstan community with a shared future, the two countries must go hand in hand and adhere to the principles of mutual respect and equality, openness and inclusiveness, value their own culture and the culture of the neighboring state, learn from each other, follow the trends of the times, and develop innovation, so as to jointly enrich modern civilization with new achievements and contribute to global development and progress.
Mr. Sydykov called silk a treasure of Chinese civilization, and silk culture a common heritage of all mankind. For more than two thousand years, fine silk threads have served as an eternal bridge that, overcoming seas and mountains, connects the rich Chinese civilization with the countries along the Silk Road. With the advent of a new era, the Great Silk Road has gained new life in Kazakhstan, blossomed with new colors, and shone even brighter.
Sydykov also said that China’s relations with countries along the Silk Road are constantly evolving, and practical cooperation in various fields yields brilliant results, which not only brings real benefits to the peoples of these countries but also gives a strong impetus to regional socio-economic development.
The exhibition “Magnificent Silk: Contemporary Chinese Silk Art” features about one hundred exquisite works of contemporary embroidery art, as well as silk clothing reflecting the spirit of the times. The display is divided into three thematic sections: the origin of silk and the evolution of silk art through different eras, contemporary intangible cultural traditions of silk craftsmanship, and the diversity of silk in fashion life, integrating silk art with digital technology. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to fully appreciate the role that silk art has played in the development of cultural exchanges between China and other countries from ancient times to the present day.
