Jerusalem, July 12 /Xinhua/ — The ruling coalition of Israel announced on Sunday that the general elections to the Knesset (parliament) of Israel will be held as previously scheduled on October 27 of this year and will not be moved to an earlier date. This was reported by the Israeli state television Kan TV.
According to Israeli law, general parliamentary elections must be held every four years.
The election campaign will officially begin on July 17, when the Knesset goes on parliamentary recess. From that moment, the government will transition to caretaker status and will not be able to advance important political initiatives, except for agreed-upon bills, ongoing regulatory decisions, and measures necessary to ensure security.
