Beijing, July 12 /Xinhua/ — China expresses strong condemnation and firm protest regarding the statement made by Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, made ten years after the so-called “2016 South China Sea Arbitration Award” emerged. This was stated on Sunday by the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

The official representative noted that the statement by the head of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs openly supports the illegal “arbitral award,” contains attacks on China’s legitimate claims, and provides a false characterization of Japan as a “party interested in the South China Sea issue.”

The Chinese side calls on Japan to stop defamatory attacks against China, to cease spreading misinformation on the South China Sea issue, and to stop undermining peace and stability in the region, said the Chinese diplomat. He emphasized that the PRC will continue to resolutely defend its territorial sovereignty, maritime rights, and interests in the South China Sea.

Any attempts to challenge the legitimate rights and interests of China and to undermine peace and stability in the South China Sea region are doomed to fail, concluded the official representative of the Chinese foreign affairs department. –0–
