Taipei, July 11 /Xinhua/ — Typhoon “Bavi”, the ninth of this year, reached the northeastern part of the island of Taiwan early Saturday morning, leading to the cancellation of flights in the cities of Taipei and Taichung, as well as the suspension of work and school classes in most districts of the island.
According to the latest information, across the entire territory of Taiwan, wind and rain have intensified, with separate reports of damage, including power outages and landslides.
Meteorological services reported that the epicenter of the typhoon was located over the waters approximately 360 km southeast of Taipei and was moving northwest at a speed of 27 km per hour.
Heavy rains will continue throughout the day, with heavy downpours forecast in the mountainous areas north of the city of Taichung, and strong gusts of wind in many areas. The public is advised to avoid visiting beaches due to high waves.
In the mountainous regions of central and southern Taiwan, rain is expected to continue until night, with precipitation gradually weakening across the island on Sunday, meteorological officials reported. -0-
