Moscow, July 8 /Xinhua/ — The average grain yield in Russia is nearly a quarter higher than last year’s level, the harvested crop will fully meet the country’s domestic needs and maintain a high export potential. These assessments are given by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on its website.

As noted in the department’s report, the wheat yield has currently increased by 22 percent year-on-year, and barley by 18 percent. The harvesting work is most active in the Southern Federal District, where harvesting traditionally begins earlier. In this region, the average yield has increased by more than 40 percent to 43.7 centners per hectare. The leader in yield in the country is Krasnodar Krai, where an average of 53.6 centners of grain is harvested per hectare.

According to the Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut, the positive trend is associated with increased production technology, the use of modern plant varieties, fertilizers, and protective agents.
