Beijing, July 8 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese side invites a greater number of American citizens to visit China for trips and exchanges, to see firsthand the real, multifaceted, and comprehensive picture of modern China and to make a personal contribution to the cause of China-US friendship. This was stated on Wednesday by Mao Ning, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
Mao Ning made a corresponding statement at a regular briefing for journalists, commenting on the successful holding from June 28 to July 2 in China of a series of events called “Gulin Bonds: a friendly baseball match and a week of sports exchanges between the youth of China and the USA in 2026.”
“We are pleased to see that the ‘Gulin story,’ which has lasted for more than a hundred years, is gaining new life and being enriched with new chapters of friendly exchanges,” noted the Chinese diplomat.
Mao Ning reminded that recently successful Sino-American youth events have taken place, such as Sports Exchange Week, the Flying Tigers Young Leaders Dialogue, and the Journey to China with Pandas program. According to her, these events clearly demonstrated that the Chinese and American peoples share similar emotions, are fully capable of overcoming differences, admiring each other, and building friendship.
Such events, emphasized the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, convincingly prove that the hopes for China-US relations are rooted in the peoples of the two countries, their foundation is laid in the people-to-people connections, the future is determined by the youth, and the vitality flows from the local levels.
Mao Ning added that the initiative launched in November 2023 to invite 50,000 young Americans to China over five years for exchange and study programs was completed two and a half years ahead of schedule.
