UN, July 6 /Xinhua/ — The UN on Monday welcomed Hamas’s statement that the movement will transfer the management of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian technocrats’ committee.
“We have taken note of Hamas’ statement on the dissolution of the government emergency committee and the transfer of administrative powers to the National Committee for the Management of the Gaza Strip,” said UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
The UN welcomes any steps “that contribute to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the achievement of the goals reflected in the relevant Security Council resolutions, including full compliance with the ceasefire agreement, protection of the civilian population, and unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid,” he emphasized.
The UN “will continue to support efforts to establish a unified Palestinian governance system under the leadership of the Palestinian National Authority,” added S. Dujarric.
On Monday, the Hamas movement announced the dissolution of the government committee on emergency situations in the Gaza Strip and the transfer of control of the enclave to an interim Palestinian committee of 15 technocrats.
