Almaty, July 7 /Xinhua/ — The Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan has provided an official clarification of several articles of the new constitution, including on the issue of applying restrictions when appointing or electing certain officials. This was reported by the news agency Kazinform.
The Constitutional Court explained that holding high government positions during the period of the 1995 constitution will not be an obstacle to re-election or appointment after the new constitution comes into force.
It is noted that the restrictions provided by the 2026 constitution apply only to cases of election or appointment carried out in accordance with the current constitution and the regulatory legal acts adopted on its basis.
According to the official interpretation of the court, individuals who held the positions specified in the main law during the period of the 1995 constitution may be re-elected or appointed after the entry into force of the 2026 constitution. At the same time, for the application of the restrictions established by the constitution, such election or appointment will be considered the first one. –0–
