Oslo, July 7 /Xinhua/ — China is ready to support high-level exchanges with Norway and strengthen the political foundation of bilateral relations. Beijing is confident that Oslo will continue to firmly adhere to the One-China policy, which also aligns with the goals and principles of the UN Charter. This was stated here on Monday by Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
J.G. Stere said that Norway expects to jointly maintain a high level of exchange with China, expand cooperation in new areas such as the green economy and artificial intelligence, strengthen contacts and coordination on international and regional affairs, support the central role of the UN, and defend global multilateralism.
He noted that Norway has actively participated in providing international development assistance for many years and is ready to continue making a significant contribution to the development of North-South cooperation.
Wan Yi conveyed greetings from the leaders of China to his interlocutor. He emphasized that the successful visit of H.E. Mr. Stere to China in 2024 gave new impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
The Minister noted that Norway was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the PRC, reflecting its strategic foresight.
Thanks to joint efforts, China-Norway relations have maintained a stable momentum of development, Wang Yi stated. The parties have overcome differences in social systems, history, and culture, and steadily strengthened mutual trust in the spirit of mutual respect, while simultaneously developing cooperation and properly resolving disagreements, he added.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, bilateral relations have withstood the test of changes in the international situation and have become more resilient and stable.
China and Norway should focus on their complementary strengths, actively deepen cooperation in areas such as the economy, trade, and innovation, and promote the development of cooperation in the field of green transition, in order to play a leading role in the world, the minister said.
China is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination jointly with Norway, protect genuine multilateralism, implement four global initiatives, and promote the creation of a more just and equitable system of global governance, said Wang Yi.
He expressed hope that Norway will continue to play a exemplary role in promoting North-South cooperation. China will actively advance South-South cooperation, and together both sides will contribute to the development and progress of humanity, added Wang Yi. –0–
