Khartoum, July 7 /Xinhua/ — At least 330 children were killed or injured in Sudan during the first six months of 2026, with the worst situation in Darfur and Kordofan. This was reported on Monday by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
“Children across Sudan continue to bear the burden of a war that is becoming increasingly deadly,” the organization’s press release says.
The situation in El Obeid and its surroundings in North Kordofan state is of particular concern, UNICEF notes. According to available data, since May more than 35 children have been affected by drone strikes and other attacks there, at least 18 of whom have died.
According to the foundation, 60 percent of cases of children’s deaths and injuries occur due to drone strikes. It is estimated that 500,000 civilians in the specified area are at risk.
“For many children, there are no safe places left… Children must never become targets,” said UNICEF representative in Sudan Sheldon Yett.
The organization called on all parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as to ensure safe, swift, and unimpeded humanitarian access. –0–
