Oslo, July 7 /Xinhua/ — Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, stated on Monday that China and Norway should deepen cooperation and jointly contribute to peace and development worldwide.
He made this statement during negotiations with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
Noting that Norway was one of the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi said that China-Norway relations have maintained stable and sustainable development over many years, greatly benefiting both peoples.
In recent years, through joint efforts of both sides, political mutual trust between the two countries has continued to deepen, while mutually beneficial cooperation has become increasingly profound and substantive, encompassing new “green” and innovative areas, he said.
The dialogue on green transition between China and Norway has become an important platform for bilateral cooperation in the new era, said Wang Yi, adding that regardless of how the international situation develops, China and Norway must remain reliable partners in cooperation.
China is ready to work with Norway to strengthen exchanges at all levels and in various fields, including with the Norwegian royal family, government, parliament, and political parties, to maintain the political foundation of bilateral relations, to expand practical cooperation in areas such as trade and the green economy, and to continuously enrich bilateral ties, he said.
According to him, both sides should increase the level of bilateral trade, sign the China-Norway free trade agreement as soon as possible, continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in clean energy, electric vehicles, green shipping, and the circular economy, as well as work on ensuring the effective implementation of the green transition dialogue, setting an example for cooperation between countries.
Noting that the world is currently engulfed in growing chaos, Wang Yi said that Norway has participated in mediation processes related to acute regional and international issues.
China and Norway must work together to protect multilateralism through concrete actions, promote the peaceful resolution of disputes, strengthen cooperation in global governance, and advance the establishment of a fairer and more equitable system of global governance, thereby contributing to peace, stability, prosperity, and development worldwide, said Wang Yi.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister said that the constructive partnership between Norway and China is currently showing high growth rates. Norway remains firmly committed to the One China policy and is ready to strengthen exchanges at the highest level and dialogue at all levels with China, as well as promote practical cooperation in areas such as trade, the green economy, environmental protection, and maritime affairs.
Norway has always supported free trade and opposed excessive securitization of economic issues, he said. Noting that the world today is experiencing change and turbulence, E. B.
