Tashkent, July 6 /Xinhua/ — The volume of direct investments by Uzbekistan residents in foreign assets for the first quarter of 2026 reached 153.1 million US dollars, which is 33 times higher than the figure for the same period last year. This is evidenced by data from the country’s Central Bank.
For comparison: in the first three months of 2025, the volume of Uzbekistan’s outbound direct investments amounted to 4.7 million dollars, while in the same period of 2024 it was 3.5 million dollars.
At the same time, the volume of foreign direct investment received by the Uzbek economy from non-residents in the first quarter of this year amounted to 702 million dollars, which is lower than the figure for January-March of last year /761.7 million dollars/.
One of the key factors driving the growth of outbound investments has been the liberalization of currency regulation. Starting from January 1, 2026, residents of Uzbekistan are allowed to invest in U.S. companies without government permission and without limits on the amount, provided that the funds are in their accounts in Uzbek banks. Previously, government approval was required for transactions exceeding $10,000.
The next stage of currency regulation liberalization will begin on September 17, 2026. –0–
