Beijing, July 6 /Xinhua/ — From July 2 to 5, the Global Digital Economy Conference 2026 was held in Beijing. The event was attended by leaders of Chinese and foreign corporations, representatives of business councils, specialists and scientists, as well as officials at the ministerial level from Kazakhstan, Colombia, and Chad.
Participants of the event expressed the opinion that artificial intelligence is an important driving force of the new stage of the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformations, as well as an international social product for the benefit of humanity.
Professor Jiang Xiaoxuan from the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences noted that the production of large AI models is oriented towards the global market. Open-source large AI models reduce the technological gap between companies in different countries, lowering the cost of cross-border exchanges of innovative resources and collaborative innovation on a global scale.
According to data, in 2025 the added value of Beijing’s digital economy exceeded 2.4 trillion yuan, which is 8.7 percent more than the previous year at current prices, and accounted for 46.4 percent of the city’s gross regional product.
“Beijing not only strives to become a source of advanced technologies, but is also ready to rely on international exchanges and educational platforms to train global digital specialists and share smart city management experiences with all countries,” said Yu Jun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing People’s Congress.
The director of the Asian Academy of Digital Economy, Chen Baihui, emphasized that the development of science and technology should prioritize people, making the lives of ordinary individuals more comfortable and fulfilling.
In the 2026 report on the development of cities in the global digital economy, published during the conference, the importance of digitalization that puts people first, joint industry development, data openness, mutual recognition of standards, and cybersecurity was emphasized.
The report also called for continued efforts to create a reliable, inclusive, and sustainable environment for digital development.
According to the organizing committee, since its establishment in 2021, this conference has attracted over 10,000 companies and 150,000 representatives from more than 200 countries and international organizations, and to date, 500 achievements have been published.
