Nanning, July 6 /Xinhua/ — A serious breakthrough occurred at a reservoir in Hengzhou near the city of Nanning in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GXAR) in southern China on Monday morning, prompting the relevant authorities to immediately raise the emergency response level, local authorities reported.
Given the serious situation related to flood control, the city authorities have decided to raise the flood emergency response level from 3 to 1, starting from 11:30 AM on Monday.
Employees of the Lulan reservoir, a medium-sized water protection facility in the region, reported a dam breach on Monday morning. In response, local emergency management, fire and rescue services, and water management agencies were mobilized to carry out emergency rescue operations and evacuate the populations affected by the incident.
The Nanning City Emergency Management Committee issued a notice stating that since July 4, heavy rains and downpours have been observed in most parts of Nanning city, with extremely heavy downpours in certain areas. -0-
