An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Since July 6, 2026, the Moscow Exchange has implemented the ability to conduct transactions with bonds and repo transactions in US dollars. Market participants concluded deals with the new instrument on the first day of trading.

Money market participants can enter into non-deliverable USD repo transactions at the rate formed on the Moscow Exchange currency market, with terms from one to seven settlement days from the transaction date. An open position on the repo transaction will be carried over to the currency market, and upon closing the position, the trading result will be settled in US dollars.[1].

In the bond market, with an open position in US dollars on the currency market, it is possible to make transactions with bonds denominated in US dollars, euros, and Chinese yuan. The list of bonds available for transactions in dollars includes approximately 200 securities, including Eurobonds, substitute bonds, and corporate bonds with a currency denomination.

The ability to conduct bond transactions in dollars will be a driver for the development of the foreign currency securities segment on the Moscow Exchange. This will expand opportunities for asset managers, enable effective liquidity and interest rate risk management, and improve the quality of pricing for securities.

Earlier Moscow Exchange carried out the transfer of trading the currency pair “US dollar – Russian ruble” from an over-the-counter regime to an exchange regime. In the currency market, participants can carry out operations with this currency pair in the exchange anonymous trading mode (CETS).

The new services will enable market participants to manage currency liquidity more efficiently and expand opportunities for executing investment and funding operations within a unified exchange infrastructure.

Moscow Exchange is the largest Russian exchange, the only multifunctional platform in Russia for trading stocks, bonds, derivatives, currency, money market instruments, and commodities. The Moscow Exchange group includes a central depository as well as a clearing center that acts as a central counterparty in the markets, enabling Moscow Exchange to provide clients with a full range of trading and post-trading services.

Please note: from June 13, 2024, due to the imposition of sanctions against the NCC and the ongoing blocking of correspondent accounts, transactions in US dollars using the NCC’s correspondent accounts will not be conducted, including crediting and debiting of currency, as well as the use of US dollars previously blocked on these accounts for securing and fulfilling obligations.

[1] Trading participants can conclude deals on the Moscow Exchange currency market with the currency pair “US dollar – Russian ruble” settled in rubles in the exchange system mode (CETS) and in the off-system trading mode (CNGD) without currency delivery.
