Moscow, July 6 /Xinhua/ — Armenia is interested in further developing relations with Russia, as well as participating in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was stated on Monday by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on the sidelines of the 16th International Industrial Exhibition “Innoprom,” which is taking place from July 6 to 9 in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
“Both before and after the elections, we are committed to the further development of our relations with the Russian Federation. And of course, we are interested in our participation in the Eurasian Economic Union. We are interested in the mechanisms provided for in the Eurasian Economic Union treaty working according to plan. I believe this is in the interest of the further development of the Eurasian Economic Union,” said N. Pashinyan, adding that the current meeting is a very good opportunity to discuss the entire range of the bilateral agenda and to synchronize our watches.
As noted by M. Mishustin on his part, Moscow expects that the new Armenian government, formed as a result of the elections, will ensure the progressive development of Russian-Armenian relations in the spirit of friendship, good-neighborliness, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests. “Despite turbulence in the world economy, Russia ranks first among Armenia’s foreign trade partners and investors,” emphasized the Russian Prime Minister.
N. Pashinyan arrived in Yekaterinburg on a working visit. This is his first trip abroad after the parliamentary elections held on June 7 in Armenia, in which the party he leads won.
Yerevan has recently declared a course towards integration with the European Union. In March 2025, the Armenian parliament passed a law initiating the process of the republic’s accession to the EU. At the end of May, following a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan issued a joint statement calling on Armenia to hold a referendum to choose between membership in the EAEU and the European Union. –0–
