Beijing, July 5 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday, China’s Ministry of Water Resources activated a level 4 emergency flood response in Liaoning and Jilin provinces in the northeast of the country and sent two working groups to assist local authorities and lead flood control measures and related work.
From July 4 to 6, heavy rains are expected in the northern and western regions of Liaoning Province and most of Jilin Province, with total precipitation potentially exceeding 100 mm in some areas. It is expected that the water level in some rivers will rise above the critical mark.
The ministry called on local water management authorities to strengthen monitoring and forecasting of precipitation and hydrological conditions, as well as to promptly disseminate information about warnings. They were also instructed to intensify patrolling and emergency response, enhance measures to prevent floods on small and medium rivers and mountain stream flows, and make every effort to ensure the safety of people’s lives and their property.
China has a four-tier emergency response system for emergencies, with the first level being the most serious.
