On the eve of the Day of Workers of the Sea and River Fleet, Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev and Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin held a video conference with representatives of the industry.
The Deputy Prime Minister read out congratulations from the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The Head of State emphasized that water transport is rightly considered an important, integral part of Russia’s transport system, serves the socio-economic development of the country, the expansion of interregional and international connections, and reliably provides passenger and freight transportation.
In turn, Vitaly Savelyev noted that the work of sailors and river workers has always been of special importance to Russia. “You ensure the reliable operation of the industry. You create new opportunities for the economy and citizens. Special gratitude to the fleet veterans. You have established strong professional traditions, passed on to new generations respect for service, discipline, and a sense of responsibility to the country,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Andrey Nikitin also emphasized that water transport is strategically important for the country: a large part of foreign trade is provided by sea, and for residents of remote areas, waterways remain a synonym for life.
“Our task is to connect the river, sea, and land into a single transportation system. At the same time, any large-scale changes begin with a strong team. Our sailors and river workers are people of special resilience, the pride of Russia. I am convinced that thanks to your work and professionalism, the industry will continue to develop dynamically,” said the minister.
At the meeting, reports were heard on the completion of the reconstruction of the berths and the water area of the Gutuyevsky Bay in the Big Port of Saint Petersburg, the restoration of the Sochi Marine Station, and the progress of the first navigation through the Bagaevsky hydrojunction, which is being modernized under the national project “Efficient Transport System.” Also, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport participated via video link in the flag-raising ceremony on the tug and rescue vessel “Favor.”
