Beijing, July 3 /Xinhua/ — In the first half of 2026, the number of Russian tourists visiting the seaside area of Beidaihe in Qinhuangdao city, Hebei Province /Northern China/, increased by 150 percent year-on-year. This was reported by the Chinese news agency “Zhongguo Xinwenshe” on its website citing official data.
The Beidaihe district, located in the northern part of the Bohai Bay coast and about 300 km east of Beijing, is globally popular as one of the most famous summer resorts in China.
By the end of 2025, the Beidaihe district received over 30,000 inbound tourists. A sharp increase in the number of foreign visitors was observed in January-June of this year, with Russians making up a significant portion, the report adds.
According to Liu Dan, deputy head of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio and Television of the Beidaihe District in Qinhuangdao City, whereas previously Russian tourists mainly came to Beidaihe for short-term seaside vacations, now an increasing number of Russian tourists come in groups for educational, familiarization, and wellness trips or in search of inspiration for artistic creativity, and the average length of their stay has increased from 7 to approximately 15 days.
Currently, a 14-day Chinese-Russian language and cultural summer camp is taking place in the Beidaihe area. More than 200 Russian teenagers are participating, learning the Chinese language while becoming acquainted with China’s intangible cultural heritage and Chinese culture as a whole.
According to data from the hosting company, this year the camp has already been visited by more than 6,000 people from Russia, who arrived for educational and exploratory purposes. They came from more than 20 cities in Russia, including Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
In recent years, increasingly considering the needs of Russian tourists and striving to enhance their stay experience, the authorities of the Beidaihe district have taken a number of measures, including installing Chinese-Russian bilingual signs at tourist scenic spots, business areas, and public transport stops, as well as opening Russian cuisine restaurants and establishments offering tea and other drinks.
