Beijing, July 1 /Xinhua/ — The total volume of trade in services in China for the first five months of this year increased by 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Notably, significant growth was recorded in the tourism and knowledge-intensive services sectors, official data released on Wednesday show.
According to the published statistical data from the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, the total volume of service imports and exports from January to May this year amounted to approximately 3.1 trillion yuan / about 455.4 billion USD /.
In particular, exports of services increased by 15.9% year-on-year to 1.23 trillion yuan, while imports grew by 0.4% to 1.87 trillion yuan. The trade deficit in the services sector decreased by 160.72 billion yuan compared to last year and amounted to 638.56 billion yuan.
During the reporting period, the volume of trade in knowledge-intensive services increased by 5.4 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1.37 trillion yuan. The share of this indicator reached 44.2 percent of the total volume of trade in services.
The export of high-tech services surged by 12.2 percent to 667.75 billion yuan. At the same time, revenues from the use of intellectual property and from the provision of individual cultural and entertainment services increased by 64.9 percent and 50.1 percent, respectively.
The volume of exports of tourism services showed the highest growth rates among the top five service export sectors, increasing by 31.3 percent to 188.5 billion yuan. Imports of transport services amounted to 402.52 billion yuan with a growth of 26.7 percent, which was the highest growth rate among the top five categories of service imports. -0-
