Beijing, July 1 /Xinhua/ — China and the United States should eliminate obstacles, overcome existing barriers, and steadfastly follow the right path toward building a relationship of constructive strategic stability. This was stated by the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the corresponding statement on Tuesday during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In May of this year, as the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded, the Chairman of the PRC, Xi Jinping, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, reached a number of important agreements in Beijing, including on building China-US relations of constructive strategic stability, which provided strategic guidance and defined a clear direction for the development of bilateral ties during the next three years and beyond.
Wang Yi stated that building a relationship of constructive strategic stability meets the aspirations of the peoples of both countries, the expectations of the international community, and the fundamental interests of China and the United States.
He emphasized that both parties must consistently adhere to the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, converting the important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries into concrete policies and practical measures.
According to Wang Yi, building a constructive strategic stability in China-US relations is not just a slogan; it requires action, moving toward each other, and unremitting efforts.
For this, as the Chinese diplomat noted, the parties must lengthen the list of cooperation and expand the positive agenda, while simultaneously reducing the list of contentious issues and keeping various risks and hidden threats under control.
Pointing to the far-reaching consequences related to the Taiwan issue, Wang Yi urged the United States to exercise maximum caution in matters concerning Taiwan.
Both sides agreed that the recent telephone conversation between the heads of foreign affairs departments was positive and constructive. The interlocutors agreed to jointly implement important agreements reached by the leaders of the two states and to continue maintaining communication in a flexible format. –0–
