Recently, film screenings from mainland China began in Taipei as part of the 17th Cross-Strait Taiwan Film Festival. Taiwanese audiences will be presented with eight mainland Chinese films of various genres and styles. Additionally, filmmakers from mainland China also participated in audience Q&A sessions after screenings and industry events.
The program included films of various genres, including the feature film “The Sun Rises Over All of Us,” the historical war film “Dongji Island,” the historical film “Lychee from Chang’an,” the film “Row to Victory” about a fishing village in the south of Fujian Province, as well as the films “Scene,” “You Are the Best,” “My Friend Andre,” “Table for Two,” and others.
The chairman of the Taiwan Committee for Film Exchange between the Two Sides of the Taiwan Strait, Taiwanese director Zhu Yanping, stated that the film festival has been held for 17 consecutive years without interruption and has long become a connecting link between the cultures of the two sides of the strait. This year, tickets for screenings of films from mainland China in Taiwan are in high demand, indicating the formation of a loyal audience.
Screenings of mainland China’s films were held at the Taipei Dome Showtime Cinemas from June 22 to 27, and tickets for many sessions have already been sold out. Earlier, as part of the 17th Cross-Strait Taiwan Film Festival in the city of Ya’an, Sichuan Province, seven Taiwanese films were screened: “96 Minutes,” “Girl,” “Deep Silence,” and others.
