Washington, June 28 /Xin Hua/ — The USA and Iran have agreed to temporarily halt mutual attacks and to hold negotiations on Tuesday in the Qatari capital Doha with the aim of settling the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on Sunday by the American portal Axios citing an American official.
According to the source, the parties of the “poka” will cease fire and “the vessels will be able to move freely,” but technical negotiations will continue.
Initially, it was planned that the negotiations would take place in Switzerland and be dedicated to Iran’s nuclear program. However, the renewed tension in the Strait of Hormuz led to the relocation of the meeting to Doha and a shift in focus to ensuring the security of shipping.
During negotiations in Switzerland a week ago, the American delegation agreed with Iran to create a “hotline” between the armed forces of the USA and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to coordinate the movement of ships in the strait.
