Beijing, June 29 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of the PRC on Sunday planned work to prevent floods, as a new wave of heavy rains is expected to affect the southern regions of the country.
According to forecasts, from June 28 to July 3, abundant precipitation, mainly from heavy to torrential, is expected in the majority of areas south of the Yangtze River, in the eastern and southern parts of Southwest China, the northwestern part of South China, and the southern part of Hubei Province in Central China, the ministry reported.
In particular, heavy rains are expected in some places in the southern part of Anhui province, the northern part of Zhejiang province, the northern part of Hunan province, the southern part of Hubei province, the southern part of Guizhou province, and the northwest part of the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region.
It is expected that under the influence of precipitation in several rivers in the Yangtze River basin, the river basin of the Chuziang River, the area around Lake Taihu, as well as in the east Chinese provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian, there will be a noticeable rise in water levels.
The Ministry demanded that local water management authorities and river basin management bodies closely monitor flood risks in key areas, strengthen forecasting and early warning, as well as activate efforts to prevent flooding in medium and small rivers, as well as mountain streams.
The department also called for the proper operation of water facilities, strengthening the patrolling of water areas and river embankments, as well as taking measures to ensure the safety of structures under construction during the flood period. -0-
