Beijing, June 26 /Xin Hua/ — The average annual increase in electricity consumption in China during the implementation period of the 15th five-year plan (2026-2030) will amount to about 600 billion kWh, an official representative of the State Administration of Energy Affairs of the PRC, Du Junmin, said on Friday.

The indicator’s growth, according to the official, will be driven by a sharp increase in demand for electricity in the field of computing power, rapid growth in demand for electric vehicle charging, as well as stable growth in electricity consumption by other industrial sectors and households.

The expected average annual growth in electricity consumption in China will be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption volume of one country with an average-sized economy, he explained.
