Beijing, June 26 /Xin Hua/ — By 2030, a new system will mainly be created in China, aimed at ensuring ecologically clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient development of the country’s energy sector. This is stated in a plan published on the day by the State Committee for Development and Reform of the PRC and the State Administration for Energy of the PRC.
The plan, designed for the implementation period of the 15th five-year plan /2026-2030/, defines, in particular, goals for ensuring energy security, promoting green transition, increasing technological self-sufficiency, and improving market mechanisms.
By 2030, the total energy production capacity in the country will reach 5.8 billion tons of coal equivalent.
At the same time, according to the plan, the capabilities of the energy system in terms of complementarity, mutual support, safety, and resilience will be comprehensively improved.
It is also said that coal and oil consumption should reach peak values, the share of non-renewable energy sources should be 25 percent of the total energy consumption volume, and the share of wind and solar energy should exceed 50 percent of the country’s total installed capacity, becoming the main component of installed capacity.
According to the plan, by 2030 the share of non-depletable energy sources in the total volume of electricity generation should be 50%, becoming the main source of electricity. It is expected that the new energy system will be mainly formed by 2030.
The document is aimed at significantly ensuring the independence and controllability of key technologies and equipment in the energy production chain. In doing so, China will become one of the global leaders in the field of energy innovation.
The plan also provides for a faster improvement of market and pricing mechanisms, adapted to the new energy system. At the same time, a unified national electricity market system should be mainly formed.
The plan also emphasizes the necessity of optimizing energy production bases from fossil fuels, the synergy between the development of energy resources and the placement of energy-consuming industry facilities, as well as the further expansion of diversified channels for energy resource imports.
China has set targets to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
The country has built the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, which provides stronger support for the transition to a green and low-carbon economy. -0-
