At the Polytechnic University, the defense of final qualification papers took place for students of the first joint educational program with Harbin Engineering University in the field of “Management in Technical Systems,” profile — “Industrial Artificial Intelligence”.
The international program is implemented in the 2+2 format: in the first and second year, students study at Harbin Engineering University, and in the third and fourth years — at SPbPU, in Russian.
This is the first bachelor’s program in Russia specifically aimed at training specialists in the application of technology and artificial intelligence in industry. Modern industrial enterprises are highly complex robotic systems, and controlling them without intelligent systems is impossible. Training follows a project-design type of professional activity: besides the theory of automatic control, graduates study neural technologies, knowledge bases, design cloud platforms, and cyber-physical systems.Students from KNL demonstrated an excellent level of knowledge across all disciplines and a great command of the Russian language, noted the head of the educational program, Alexey Militsyn.
The defense of theses took place at the Graduate School of Cyber-Physical Systems Management of the Institute of Computer Science and Cybersecurity of SPbPU. Students presented projects in the field of applying neural networks for diagnosing malfunctions of industrial equipment, development of digital twins of production processes, as well as creating an industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform with elements of predictive analytics.
Graduates shared their impressions about the training.
Guan Haoyuan: In Polite, we gained greater capabilities for working with equipment: uploading our own code, checking device operation, independently managing processes. This allowed us to truly immerse ourselves in engineering tasks.
Li Huny: Studying technical disciplines in Russian was initially difficult. In the first lecture, I hardly understood anything, but I tried to sit in the first row to better hear the teacher. With each month, the language barrier decreased, and now I feel confident.
Guan Tianyi: I was surprised that here, each lecture is accompanied by a practical exercise. This helps to immediately apply the theory and better remember the material.
Van Tsyi: Many people speak English and Chinese, but Russian provides an additional advantage. I want to become a bridge between our countries, and this program gave me technical and language skills necessary for an international career.
By the way, Van Tszui has already received an invitation for the position of manager at Huawei’s Russian office. Graduates of the program are in demand at the largest domestic and Chinese companies for work on joint projects. Some students have found interesting jobs thanks to the program, while others continue their studies in a master’s program, with most of them being in Russia.
The program fully corresponds to the priorities of the national program “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation” and end-to-end digital technologies, including neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence, new production technologies, robotic components, and sensorics.
The successful graduation of the first bachelor’s degree students from the joint program with Harbin Engineering University is a confirmation of the effectiveness of the “two plus two” model. We create not separate courses, but an integrated educational environment where Russian and Chinese training programs in engineering complement each other. The demand for such specialists from high-tech companies already today exceeds the supply, and we see this as the best assessment of our work.Ahead is the development of international master’s, postgraduate programs and the expansion of partnerships, noted the head of the International Education Department of SPbPU Evgenia Satalkina.
The first cohort of bachelor’s degree students in the “Industrial Artificial Intelligence” program became an important milestone in the development of Russian-Chinese educational cooperation and confirmed the demand for bilateral engineering programs.
