Students of the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, who participated in the All-Russian competitive educational program “Design Bureau,” became bronze prize winners of the competition for the development of the concept for the second phase of the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University. The site is located on Russky Island in Vladivostok.
The competition was organized by the public-law company (PPC) “Unified Customer in the Construction Sector” on the instructions of the Ministry of Construction of Russia and was aimed at searching for modern architectural and urban planning solutions for the development of one of the largest university campuses in the country.
Interdisciplinary team of SPbGASU under the leadership of the senior lecturer of the Department of Information Technology and Mathematical ModelingAlexandrs Masjēnenswith the support of the Educational Center for Project-Based Learning, wanted to work on the project for several months. At the same time, it became one of the comprehensive diploma projects – innovative VK, which graduates defended this year. Participants carried out a comprehensive project development, combining architectural, urban planning, engineering, and digital approaches to the design of the territory.
The team consisted of students from the second and third years of the Faculty of ConstructionKamalia Nazruloeva, Sabina Ivanilova, Ulyana Guseva, Igor Migilyov, Adelia Yakupova, Ksenia Boltyan, Alexandra RudakovaиDaniil Goncharenko,Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Urban EconomyNikita Ufimtsev, Ksenia Shvetsova; Ilsur Kamaletdinov.
The competition task involved developing the concept of a new generation university campus, including hotel-type dormitories with enhanced comfort, public spaces, educational and research infrastructure, as well as a public building for creative ideas. The total area of the designed territory was about 76 thousand square meters.
A distinctive feature of the SPBGASU team’s work was the interdisciplinary approach to solving the assigned task. During the design process, participants took into account the complex terrain of Russky Island, the requirements for the development of a modern university environment, issues of transport and pedestrian connectivity of the territory, engineering support, and digital modeling.
Special attention was paid to issues of ecology and sustainable development. In developing the concept, studies conducted by the Far Eastern Federal University within the framework of the state program of carbon polygons were taken into account. The project provides for the integration of nature-oriented solutions, the development of ecological infrastructure, and the creation of conditions for conducting climatic, ecological, and interdisciplinary research on the campus territory.
The concept is designed to form a modern educational and research environment that unites teaching, scientific activity, innovation, and comfortable living for students and teachers. Solutions aimed at creating a sustainable and technological university campus have been proposed, meeting modern requirements for the quality of the urban environment.
As a result of the competition, the work of the interdisciplinary team of SPbGASU received a high rating from the expert jury and was awarded a bronze prize.
Participation in such a project allows students to apply knowledge in conditions of real professional activity, master modern design methods, and gain experience working on large-scale federal-level tasks. The team’s result confirms the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary approach and a high level of training of SPbGASU students.
