Baku, June 24 /Xin Hua/ — Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated on Wednesday that the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, which solidified the agreement between Iran and the USA, is a “declaration of the USA’s defeat,” and not a result of pressure on Tehran.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States in Baku.
According to M. B. Galibaf, the recent conflict was not simply a military confrontation, but an attempt to impose their will on an independent people and change the strategic balance in the region.
“The organizers of the aggression expected to force the Iranian people to retreat through military pressure, blockade, psychological operations, and terrorist acts. However, events went contrary to their expectations,” he said.
M. B. Galibaf stated that, despite the damage suffered, Iran emerged from the confrontation with the USA and Israel undefeated. “This war caused serious damage to our people, but showed: even in the most severe conditions, the resilience and will of the people are capable of overturning all calculations of the aggressors,” he noted.
The agreements reached were characterized by the speaker as the result of resistance, not concessions. “The Islamabad agreement is a consequence of the resilience of the Iranian people. Dialogue bears fruit only when the other side refuses to impose its will and recognizes the rights of an ancient and civilized people,” emphasized M. B. Ghalib.
