Moscow, June 24 /Xinhua/ — The opening ceremony of the content competition in the new media “Creativity Overcomes Mountains and Seas, Friendship Between China and Russia Strives for the Future,” as well as an open house reception for internet celebrities, took place on Tuesday at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow. The event was attended by more than a hundred popular Russian bloggers, specialists in the field of new media, journalists from leading media, and young content makers.
The PRC Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Zhang Hanhui, speaking at the event, emphasized the special role of new media in strengthening bilateral relations. “New media is the most important channel for strengthening mutual understanding between peoples. It is a new bridge for the mutual enrichment of civilizations, a growing force of people’s diplomacy,” he stated.
According to Zhang Hanxue, the joint launch of the Chinese Embassy and the Vkontakte media projects competition will be an important step in the development of Sino-Russian cooperation in the new media sphere. “Thanks precisely to your unwavering attention to China’s development, your vivid and sincere stories about Sino-Russian friendship, more and more people are learning about the real China, about the advantages of mutually beneficial cooperation,” he emphasized.
Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova highly appreciated the role of new media in strengthening Sino-Russian friendship. “It is precisely bloggers who travel a lot, shoot video content and combine it with the possibilities of Internet platforms, who make the story about the culture of the two countries truly accessible, understandable and very interesting,” she said. M. Zakharova also added that the Internet capabilities and Internet platforms of the two countries have qualities of responsibility, while at the same time providing genuine freedom for users.
