New Delhi, June 23 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, head of the Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Foreign Affairs, Wan Yi, held a meeting with Russian Federation Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Van I and S. Shoigu will go to New Delhi to participate in the 16th meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries on security issues.
Recalling the joint statements adopted by both sides in May of this year, Van I stated that China is ready to jointly implement with Russia an important consensus reached by the heads of the two states, continuously strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Russia, facilitate the accelerated development and rise of the two countries, as well as contribute the China-Russia contribution to the peaceful development of humanity.
Indicating that BRICS is an important platform for the practical implementation of the international community’s multilateralism, defending honesty and justice, as well as promoting peace and security, the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on China and Russia to strengthen coordination and interaction, contribute to the continuous enhancement and strengthening of the BRICS mechanism so that it truly becomes the leading team of the Global South.
According to the Chinese diplomat, the current meeting should strengthen the consensus of the BRICS countries, provide a joint response to security challenges, protect the security environment, bring more certainty to an unstable world, and make a greater “contribution of BRICS.”
S. Shoigu on his part indicated that the constant close contacts between the leaders of Russia and China are a fundamental guarantee of the stable development of interstate relations, demonstrating the special character and high level of Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction.
The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation called for deepening trust and establishing close cooperation between the two countries to prevent interference and penetration of external forces in the security sphere, as well as to counter Japan’s attempts to remilitarize.
Russia is ready to strengthen strategic coordination with China within the framework of multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS, with the aim of jointly protecting peace and stability in the region and worldwide, added S. Shoigu. –0–
