Beijing, June 19 /Xin Hua/ — On June 16, at the Capital Pedagogical University /CPU/ in Beijing, a solemn ceremony was held to award the international translation prize “Russia-China. Literary Diplomacy,” which is given for the best translations of Russian literary works into Chinese.
Professor SPU, chairman of the jury of the Lu Wenfei Prize, emphasized that nowadays in China a large number of new translations of Russian literature works appear annually. The selected works include various literary genres, including poetry, prose, and drama, and the translators include representatives of three generations – older, middle-aged, and young. This situation fully reflects the deep interest and constant attention of Chinese readers to Russian literature.
The first prize was deservedly awarded to a member of the Union of Chinese Playwrights Bai Sihun for translating a collection of plays by Alexander Arbuzov. The second prize was received by the poet Wan Zyanqiao for translating the poems of Marina Tsvetaeva. The third prize was presented to an associate professor from Xiamen University, Li Chunyu, for translating the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov — “The Master and Margarita.”
The Director of the Translation Institute of Russia, Evgeny Reznichenko, expressed warm congratulations in connection with the successful holding of the ceremony and congratulated all the winners. He expressed hope that even more young people will join translation activities in the field of Russian literature and continue to expand the scale and depth of Russian-Chinese literary exchanges, giving a new impetus to the development of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
The award, jointly established by the Institute of Translation of Russia and the Beijing Center of Slavic Studies at SPU in 2019, is aimed at popularizing Russian literature in China and is presented every two years. The jury committee consists of more than ten experts, scholars, and translators from China and Russia.
