Moscow, June 18 /Xinhua/ — The official Tokyo stance on remilitarization contradicts the Japanese constitution and causes concern and worry not only in Russia. This was stated on Thursday by the official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“Japan’s course toward remilitarization clearly contradicts the pacifist provisions of this country’s postwar constitution and, of course, raises concern and anxiety, including in Russia. We regularly draw the Japanese side’s attention to the harmfulness of this line, the implementation of which does not contribute to the harmonious development and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region, but only increases the degree of tension in this part of the world,” M. Zagarov noted in response to a question from Xinhua.
These actions by the Japanese side, according to the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “undermine efforts aimed at peaceful coexistence,” and cause harm to Japan itself in terms of economy, humanitarian, and cultural ties with neighbors.
