Beijing, June 15 /Xinhua/ — The creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has opened a new chapter in modern international relations. This was stated on Monday by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Speaking at the reception in Beijing on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the SCO, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that the member states of the organization have formed a “Shanghai spirit,” based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for the diversity of civilizations, and the pursuit of joint development, building a new type of international relations.
As the Chinese diplomat noted, the four major global initiatives, as well as the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, have pointed the world in the right direction for development. In this regard, the SCO should play an even more significant role and serve as an example in promoting peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit worldwide, added Wan Yi.
The head of the MID of the Kyrgyz Republic stated that China is ready to share development opportunities with other SCO member countries and to strive for cooperation for mutual benefit.
The SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Ermekbaev, in turn, reminded that at the SCO summit in Tianjin in 2025, a strategy for the organization’s development for the next decade was adopted, which outlined an ambitious, yet realistic and achievable course of development.
N. Yermekbayev expressed hope that the SCO member states will continue to benefit their peoples and contribute to the cause of peace and development in the region.
