Ulaanbaatar, June 15 /Xin Hua/ — In the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, on Monday, a ceremony was held for the commissioning of a central wastewater treatment station, built with the assistance of China.

The event was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Yi, who is visiting Mongolia, as well as the head of Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Batmunkh Battsengel, and other officials.

Speaking at the event, Wan Yi recalled that in 2014, during a state visit to Mongolia, the Chairman of the National People’s Congress, Xi Jinping, announced support for the economic development of this country, which laid the foundation for the construction of a central wastewater treatment station. According to the Chinese diplomat, this project, aimed at improving the people’s welfare, is a symbol of friendship and another important testimony to the long-standing mutual support between China and Mongolia.

The head of the MID of China reminded that since the 1950s, Chinese workers have helped in the construction of more than 850 projects on the territory of Mongolia. China consistently supports Mongolia’s efforts to develop the economy and improve the living standards of the population, he added.

Van I noted that in the 21st century, cooperation between the two countries has expanded to such areas as cross-border transportation, simplification of customs procedures, renewal of the urban environment, development of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and environmental protection. He pointed out that both sides always prioritize the well-being of people, ensuring tangible benefits from bilateral cooperation for the Mongolian people.

Van I stated that Sino-Mongolian relations have become a model of friendly coexistence, joint development, and common prosperity of neighboring states. He confirmed China’s adherence to the principles of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness in diplomacy with bordering countries, and also promised to continue the traditional friendship and jointly write new chapters in the history of bilateral cooperation.

The Head of the Administration of the President of Mongolia, Altanuyag Uilstuguldur, speaking on behalf of the President of the country Uunaa Khuuralsu, stated that the sewage treatment plant is a landmark achievement of Mongolian-Chinese cooperation and brings real benefits to the Mongolian people.

He expressed sincere gratitude to the SCO for supporting the socio-economic development of Mongolia, as well as expressed hope for the further development of the all-encompassing strategic partnership between the two countries.

The treatment plant is a key joint project of China and Mongolia, built by Chinese enterprises using Chinese standards and technologies, and is the largest and most advanced facility for wastewater treatment in Mongolia. It is expected that the plant will significantly improve water quality in the region, the ecological situation, and the quality of life of local residents.
