Bishkek, June 12 /Xin Hua/ — The visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Kyrgyzstan became the first official visit by the Georgian side to the republic at such a high level and marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of bilateral relations. This was stated on Friday by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, during a meeting with I. Kobakhidze.
S. Japarov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan considers Georgia as an important partner, with relations based on mutual trust, respect, and long-term cooperation. He expressed confidence that the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia will give new impetus to the further development of Kyrgyz-Georgian relations and will contribute to achieving concrete practical results, according to a statement published on the official website of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
I. Kobalidze, in turn, emphasized the readiness to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic, agricultural, tourism, cultural, sports, environmental, and other spheres representing mutual interest.
Special attention was given by leaders to the issues of activating political contacts, transport connectivity, and developing the transit potential of the two states. A positive trend in bilateral trade turnover in recent years was noted.
As a result of the negotiations, a Joint Statement was signed at the highest level, as well as a number of bilateral documents aimed at further strengthening cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian, educational, legal, and other spheres.
