London, June 11 /Xinhua/ — British Defense Secretary John Hilli resigned on Thursday due to disagreements over defense budgets, stating that the government did not allocate sufficient resources amidst increasing security threats.
In a letter to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, J. Hill noted that the proposed defense investment plan “significantly lags” behind the country’s needs. “You were unable, and the Treasury did not allocate the resources necessary for the nation’s defense,” he wrote.
J. Hill reminded that the assessments of additional investments, not accounted for by the armed forces, and their cost were completed as early as January, but the government has still not provided the necessary financial obligations.
The long-awaited defense investment plan is supposed to turn the UK’s Strategic Defence Review into a 10-year program for financing military technology and military services. However, its publication has been delayed since last year due to months of negotiations between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Finance on how to finance the expansion and modernization of the country’s armed forces. –0–
