Beijing, June 11 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, a high-level forum on global governance in the field of human rights for the year 2026 was opened in Beijing, dedicated to the joint development and universal human rights.
Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Li Shulei took part in the forum opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech at it.
Forum participants agreed that in the process of implementing Chinese modernization, China is consistently raising the level of human rights protection and achieving new historical successes in advancing the cause of human rights development.
They also called on all countries to work together on promoting the development of a civilization of human rights and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The main theme of the two-day forum is “Joint Development and Universal Human Rights: The 40th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development and a New Vision for Global Human Rights Governance.” This forum attracted more than 400 participants from over 100 countries and international organizations, including the UN.
At the forum, the National Action Plan on Human Rights /2026-2030/, which outlines China’s work on human rights protection in the next five years, was published. In the period from 2021 to 2025, the Chinese government implemented the 4th National Action Plan on Human Rights.
According to the previously published statement by the UN Human Rights Council, within the framework of the forum there will be five sub-forums dedicated to the following topics: “The significance of the Global Governance Initiative for Human Rights,” “The place and significance of the right to development in the global evolution of human rights,” “Ensuring the right to development and new challenges in the era of artificial intelligence,” “Green development and the protection of human rights,” and “Modernization and comprehensive free development of the human being.”
This forum is conducted jointly by the Press Office of the State Council of the PRC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
