Tbilisi, June 11 /Xin Hua/ — In 2026, Georgia’s economy will grow by 6.5 percent, with a gradual slowdown of inflation observed. This was reported on Thursday by the National Bank of Georgia /Central Bank/ with reference to a report from the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund /IMF/, prepared following consultations with Georgia under Article IV of the IMF Agreement.
According to the report, the Central Bank should be prepared for further tightening of monetary policy in case of a new increase in inflationary pressure. It is expected that inflation will peak in mid-2026 primarily due to the rise in energy prices, after which it will gradually decrease to the target level of 3 percent.
According to the IMF’s estimate, Georgia’s real economic growth in 2025 will be 7.5%, marking the fifth consecutive year exceeding the pandemic level. The report notes that the country’s non-economic indicators performed better than forecasts. The current account deficit in 2025 has shrunk to a historically low level of 2.6%. GDP growth is driven by export services, primarily in the information and communication technologies sector and tourism, as well as low oil prices.
According to the fund’s data, by the end of April 2026, Georgia’s international currency reserves reached 6.4 billion dollars, which corresponds to 102 percent of the reserve adequacy indicator according to the IMF methodology.
