Tashkent, June 10 /Sina/ — The international rating agency Fitch Ratings has revised the forecasts for the long-term issuer default ratings of seven state banks of Uzbekistan, changing them from “stable” to “positive” and confirming the ratings themselves.

The agency’s statement indicates that the revision of forecasts is due to the change in Uzbekistan’s sovereign rating and reflects Fitch’s improved assessment of the state’s ability to support the country’s banking sector.

Long-term ratings of these banks correspond to the country’s sovereign rating level. When determining them, the agency considered the high share of state participation in the banks’ capital, regular capital replenishment by the government, and the strategic role of these financial institutions in financing key sectors of the economy and implementing social programs.

The agency also pointed out differences in the degree of systemic significance of individual banks.

According to Fitch’s assessment, the future dynamics of the ratings of Uzbekistan’s state banks will directly depend on changes in the country’s sovereign credit profile and the government’s policy of supporting the banking sector. –0–
