From January to May 2026, Beijing received 2.667 million inbound tourists, which is 35.3% more compared to the same period last year. Interest in inbound tourism continues to grow.
As of May 11, the number of entries and exits of foreign citizens through the Beijing border checkpoints exceeded 2.55 million, which accounts for 32% of the total number of entries and exits and exceeds the same indicators of last year by 33.6%. Of these, 957 thousand foreigners entered under the visa-free regime or based on a temporary entry permit, which accounts for 70.8% of the total number of entering foreign citizens. The main purposes of trips are tourism, business, visiting relatives and friends.
