He noted that 2026 will be marked by a special date – the 100th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro. In Russia, as in Cuba, events will be held in memory of this outstanding statesman and political figure.

“Today, during a period of serious transformation of the global economy, Russian-Cuban cooperation is gaining special significance. Our common task is to protect our interests and build an independent development model. The focus of the intergovernmental commission is on increasing project activity in accordance with our Plan-2030. It is important to create practical mechanisms of cooperation—settlements in national currencies, direct regional and sectoral partnerships,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that despite external pressure, Russian companies continue to expand their presence in Cuba and are ready to invest in long-term projects, and business today is becoming a key instrument for economic sustainability.

“Following the agreements of our presidents Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Miguel Díaz-Canel, we continue to develop cooperation in various directions. As a result of last year, Russia increased imports from Cuba by 20%. Deliveries of Russian cars to Cuba are developing – brands ‘GAZ’, ‘UAZ’, ‘KAMAZ’ and ‘Lada’. The Russian side will transfer 50 ‘Moskvich’ brand cars for the taxi fleet in Havana. Last year, Russia supplied Cuba with 6 tons of substances for the production of medicines, and today we will sign a memorandum on joint development of an oncological vaccine,” Dmitry Chernyshenko reported.

In the agro-industrial sector, he noted that about 90 Russian enterprises are interested in supplying meat, dairy, and fish products to Cuba, and in the field of information technology, Russia can offer solutions in the areas of digital services, cybersecurity, telemedicine, and business automation.

Russia and Cuba are actively cooperating, including in the humanitarian field. For example, last year a branch of the Southern Federal University was opened in Havana.

“There are eight centers for the study of the Russian language operating in Cuba. Russia and Cuba continue to strengthen bilateral relations. Our partnership is intended to become an example of a new architecture of international economic cooperation in a multipolar world,” Dmitry Chernyshenko concluded.
