From June 6th, at the Moscow Planetarium, subordinate to the capital’s Department of Culture, it will be possible to visit new combined excursions “Star Journey” through the Urania Museum, named after the ancient Greek muse, the patroness of astronomy. Visitors will be able to visit two levels of the museum and watch a full-dome program in the Large Star Hall.

Tour participants will get acquainted with the history of the Moscow Planetarium and learn how perceptions of the surrounding world have changed, how astronomy developed from ancient times to the present day, and what instruments and methods were used for researching and understanding the Universe.

“We fully understand that the tour enhances the effect of visiting the Large Star Hall. It prepares the viewer for a conscious perception of the amazing naturalness and beauty of the starry sky of the planetarium. Thanks to the tour, the impression of visiting the planetarium not only becomes more holistic, bright, and memorable, but also contributes to raising the level of astronomical literacy among city residents and visitors to the capital,” notes Faina Rubleva, scientific director of the Moscow Planetarium.

On the second level of the museum, visitors will see a large-scale model of the Solar System, learn about the natural conditions on different planets, as well as about where the highest mountain in the Solar System is located and what the far side of the Moon looks like.

In addition, the planetarium features a large collection of meteorites, among which are fragments of the Chelyabinsk meteorite. All visitors can make a wish by touching a real celestial stone weighing one and a half tons.

Tickets can be purchased at the planetarium box office or onon the site.

The program of events at the Moscow Planetarium contributes to the implementation of goals and objectives of the national project in the capital“Family”. More details about the national projects of Russia and Moscow’s contribution can be found atspecial page.
