From June 2 to 27, the InteRussia 2026 internship program for young foreign specialists in the fields of “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine” and “Smart City” is being held for the third time at Novosibirsk State University. The event is organized jointly with the A.M. Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Support Foundation. This year, 255 applications were submitted for the program, which is 70% more than in 2025 (then there were 150 applications). Today, there was a solemn opening ceremony of the program. The event was attended by:Mikhail Fedoruk, chief scientific supervisor of the internship, academician of the RAS;Evgeny Pavlovsky, curator of the direction “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine”, leading research associate of the Research Center in the field of artificial intelligence (AI Center) of the NSU;Liana Saakyan, the head of the internship program from the A. Akademgorodok is a unique place in Russia, where in the middle of a scientific center there is a world-class university. I really hope that during your internship here you will not only gain relevant knowledge in the field of IT, primarily artificial intelligence, but also get acquainted with Akademgorodok, its institutes, the university, and each other.

Our school is conducted jointly with the Alexander Mikhailovich Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Support Fund. He was a unique person; in fact, for 26 years—from 1856 to 1882—he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire, and also served as the last, twelfth, Russian Chancellor. The current executive director of the Fund is Leonid Vadimovich Drachevsky, who was the first representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District. Thus, your internship takes place under the auspices of such an outstanding figure.

I would like to open this school, wish you success, good luck, and productive work, — addressed the participantsMikhail Fedoruk.

For attendees, participating in this event is an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge at one of the best Russian universities, attend thematic courses from leading experts, take part in an innovative professional masterclass in one of two areas, as well as exchange experiences with colleagues from different countries.
Internship participants work in one of two groups according to the chosen direction. The culmination of the event will be the preparation and presentation of their own scientific project.

The program for the guys will be rich. These will be lectures from our leading specialists in the field of “smart city” and artificial intelligence, and the lectures will not be at the beginner level, but for those who have experience, know the specifics of the subject area, and have a concrete interest in coming to us to learn about our experience on how we work in the sphere of “smart city”., — toldEvgeny Pavlovsky.

Participants learn in more detail about the development of the II NGU Center in the field of medical developments related to the application of deep learning methods for disease diagnostics, as well as about developments in the field of video analytics and fiber optic sensors. The program includes general lectures on agent-based modeling, building multi-agent systems for data preprocessing for machine learning, lectures on creating applications, deployment, and placement on servers.Internship participants visit companies such as “Novosibirskenergosbyt,” which is actively implementing developments in the AI field, “Elteks,” “Vegu-Absolute,” developing various smart city devices, as well as the Federal Neurosurgery Center, which applies artificial intelligence algorithms for tumor diagnostics, and the International Tomographic Center.

Ravi KumarArrived in Novosibirsk from India five years ago. He is a graduate of the English-language master’s program “Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics” at the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of NSU, and for the last three years has been working as a lead developer at the AI Center of NSU. He is also one of the instructors of the internship program — giving lectures and conducting practical classes on the study of modern AI directions — transformers as a new type of neural networks, building multi-agent systems.

I never planned to teach. But, working as a team leader, I conducted trainings and intensive sessions for colleagues. Probably, it was at that time that I realized how to teach people. I like it when people understand you and that you can impart new knowledge to them.— shared his experience Ravi Kumar.

An important part of the internship is working on projects, and the tasks are formulated taking into account the wishes of the participants. As noted by Evgeny Pavlovsky, it is expected that as a result of completing the internship, each project team will either create a working prototype or form groundwork for joint scientific work, for example, a grant application or a draft article.

The InteRussia program for specialists in the field of information technology is implemented by ANO “Internationalists” jointly with the Gorchakov Fund, Novosibirsk State University, the Siberian Branch of the RAS, and Academpark. The internship is conducted within the framework of the flagship Rossotrudnichestvo initiative “New Generation” with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund.
